Inala State School has a day
8 enrolment of 535 students for 2018.
Our school priorities are:
- Reading
- Attendance and
- Writing (RAW).
Reading at Inala State
School is underpinned by the work of Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. The
‘CAFE’ Menu breaks the teaching of reading into components, Comprehension,
Accuracy, Fluency and Expanding Vocabulary. Each
component uses distinct strategies to develop proficient readers. We
understand that different students have different needs as readers, however all
readers need instruction and support to enable them to become more independent and
self-reflective in their school work.
Attendance is tracked
daily at Inala State School with parents/carers informed, on the day, via SMS
if their child is absent. Through “Attendance Blast” during our
weekly assembly, the top three classes for the week are acknowledged for their
contribution to our whole school attendance rate. Classes and individual
students are also acknowledged and rewarded for their fantastic attendance
efforts on a term by term basis. Students and teachers collaboratively
track their attendance using a “Rocket” visual, present in every classroom to
support students to achieve their personalised attendance goal.
Writing is developed
through the work of Australian Literacy Champion Jen McVeity. Her “7
Steps to Writing Success” framework places an emphasis on student talking,
group brainstorming and short, practical activities that engage our developing
writers. The four “best practice” principles of chunk learning,
repetition and practice, think first – write second and verbal is vital are
utilised by our teaching staff. Inala State School students are supported
in the development of essential and real world literacy and writing skills.
